A Night with Mel and
Sue - Norden Farm Maidenhead
3rd
August 2003
The
first featured Mel paying a visit to Dr. Freudling. Next, the audience were
treated to Dame Melanie Giedroyc and Dame Susan Perkins performing their
own special rendition of the song 'Something Stupid'. Then it was
back to Dr Freudling who tested Mel's (somewhat strange) responses to some
pictures that were shown to her. Mel then regressed back to Mulberry
Playgroup and her fifth birthday. The Play Leaders, Margot Random (Mel)
and Teri Toweling (Sue), were rather unpleasant towards the sinister
Patchy. During this sketch Sue got the opportunity to play a few chords on
her guitar. The focus then returned
to the bed where Mel and Sue set up the next scene. Mel praised her
session with Dr. Freudling and it materialized that Sue had been a patient
of hers in the past but had been cured. Cue a Sixties regression sketch.
The voice of Dr Melanie Freudling returned Sue to the present and she was
then subjected to some hilarious word associations before being
reluctantly regressed back to her schooldays and her mentors Ms Martin and
Ms Derrick, a favourite with listeners to BBC London. Their performance of
the Billy Joel song 'Just the way you are' was a big hit with the
audience.
From
all of this, Dr. Melanie Freudling concludes that Sue, to her horror and
complete denial, wants to have a sexual relationship with Mel. Awoken by
Sue's screams, Mel tried to calm her, but another appearance by the oddly
dressed Patchy didn't really help. Mel then advised Sue to take a holiday
and in the next scene the audience became holiday loonies aboard a John
Thomas coach with tour reps, Sam (Sue) and Jackie (Mel). The onboard
entertainment was a video of an Argentinean soap opera in which Mel and
Sue donned wigs and false moustaches and played out a love triangle which
ended with Sue being shot.
During her death scene,
Sue tells Mel that she doesn't fancy her and Mel apologizes for wanting
Sue to be her girly friend. Sue tells her that they've both made
mistakes, such as Mel's dodgy accent as Dr. Freudling and their failure
to remove a chair that was blocking the audiences' view. The show closes
with Mel and Sue in bed reading Jane Austen together.
